UBeeO 5-Test Vial

£74.99 VAT included

Description

This single 5-test UBeeO™ vial contains a pre-mixed, field-ready solution of synthetic brood pheromones used to assess hygienic behaviour (HB) in Apis mellifera colonies. It is identical in formulation to the vials supplied in the UBeeO™ Testing Kit and is ideal for:

  • Beekeepers performing follow-up or mid-season testing

  • Queen breeders evaluating additional colonies for selection

  • Researchers requiring individual assay doses for field studies

Each vial contains enough solution to perform standardized tests on 5 colonies, using the UBeeO™ protocol and applicator system.

Scientific Application

The pheromone blend mimics chemical cues emitted by brood infected with Varroa destructor or bacterial pathogens. When applied to a 100-cell patch of capped worker brood, hygienic colonies will initiate uncapping and removal within 2 hours.

This method enables rapid, in-field screening of HB levels without damaging the brood, providing critical data for selection, breeding, or management decisions.

Use Instructions

  1. Use with the UBeeO™ applicator and test ring for precise and repeatable assays

  2. Apply to capped brood and return frame to hive

  3. After 2 hours, assess % of uncapped cells

  4. Colonies uncapping ≥60% are classified as high-hygiene and suitable for selection

Storage & Handling

  • Shelf Life (Unopened): ~3 years if stored at –18°C (freezer)

  • Post-Opening: For best results, use the vial within 24 hours of opening

  • Storage:

    • Long-term: Freezer (–18°C)

    • Short-term (1–2 weeks): Refrigerator (4°C), though reduced efficacy may occur

Proper cold storage is essential to preserve volatile activity of pheromone components.
