Economy Varroa Oxalic Vaporiser
This cost-effective vaporiser is designed for use with authorised oxalic-acid based treatments to control Varroa destructor (Varroa) mites in bee colonies.
Key Features:
-
Insert the silver end of the unit into the hive entrance and place the required dose of oxalic product on top.
-
Connect the two starter lead cables to any 12 V battery (not included).
-
Handle length: 53 cm; cable length: 90 cm.
-
Can be used in conjunction with Api Bioxal (oxalic-acid treatment).
Why it’s useful:
-
Vaporisation allows oxalic acid to disperse throughout the hive, reaching mites on bees rather than relying solely on contact or dribble methods.
-
A cleaner, more efficient method of treatment when used correctly (e.g., typically during brood-less periods) which helps minimise mite populations.
Usage & Safety Notes:
-
Seal the hive entrance and any gaps to ensure the vapour penetrates the colony.
-
Always follow the dosage instructions with your oxalic product and ensure you use correct personal protective equipment: mask (FFP2 or equivalent), gloves, eye protection.
-
After treatment, ventilate the hive and remove the unit once safe to do so.
-
Note: effectiveness is reduced when there is capped brood present, as mites inside cells may be protected.
Summary:
This Economy Varroa Oxalic Vaporiser offers a practical and relatively affordable way for beekeepers to perform oxalic acid vaporisation treatments. When used properly, it supports effective mite control and helps maintain colony health.
